Billing Codes

These are the billing codes mentioned in the FAQ section "Do you accept insurance?" (go there to link to this page in the future). They are commonly used codes to bill for psychiatric services. If you are calling your insurance company to find out about reimbursement, ask what is the maximum coverage amount (sometimes called the “UCR,” or “usual and customary rate”) for the boldfaced codes. You may want to call and ask me for my Federal Tax ID before calling your insurer, as they will occasionally ask for it.

Evaluation codes

90792 – Initial evaluation

Medication check codes

99212 – Medication check, straightforward
99213 – Medication check, low complexity
99214 – Medication check, medium complexity
99215 – Medication check, high complexity

90833 – plus psychotherapy, 16-37 mins
90836 – plus psychotherapy, 38-52 mins
90838 – plus psychotherapy, >52 mins

Psychotherapy codes

90832 – Psychotherapy (no medication), 16-37 mins

90837 – Psychotherapy (no medication), > 52 mins
90846 – For children: Family psychotherapy, patient not present
