Dr. Michael Swetye, MD, MBA
Professional Background
I am board-certified in two fields: adult psychiatry and child/adolescent psychiatry. I obtained my medical degree from the Yale School of Medicine following undergraduate studies in Molecular Biology at Princeton University. While at Yale I also completed an MBA at the Yale School of Management because I am fascinated by human organizations and leadership. I then came to San Francisco, where I completed my medical internship, adult psychiatry residency and child/adolescent fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). For over 10 years I have worked with patients in hospital and outpatient settings in the Bay Area.
Experience
My psychiatry experience spans the full range of ages, diagnoses, related illnesses, and treatment methods, as well as a diversity of settings including schools, homes, courts, hospitals, outpatient clinics, hospice, and emergency rooms. I have also worked with patients from many different cultures and places of origin.
Due to my broad background and experience, I draw on a wide-range of techniques in order address issues, rather than using the same tool, theory, technique at all times. Every patient and family is unique, and therefore deserves a uniquely crafted treatment method. As a psychiatrist trained in both adult and child/adolescent psychiatry, I understand how the roots of problems emerge and can be treated at various stages of human development. In the case of children and adolescents, I can coordinate and collaborate with professionals across disciplines to produce a maximally effective, holistic treatment process.
Clinical Focus
My clinical practice is currently primarily focused on providing integrated psychotherapy and medication management (if appropriate) to "tweens," adolescents and adults. The treatment may be structured to an individual, couple, parents and/or family.
